Interview: Jonathan Franz 02/07/2009
![]() Jonathan Franz is one of the contributing writers over on The Rivalry Esq. They are part of the SB Nation (Around the Oval and others), and cover all things Big Ten in their blog. So we got him to talk with us about Ohio State's recruiting class, along with how the Big Ten performed as a conference on the recruiting trail. 1) What is your overall impression of Ohio State's class? Good stuff. The only thing I disagree with is that Illinois somehow had an impressive class. The didn't, and Zook's recruiting success is minimizing during every year of his tenure.

Great interview, I had never even been over to Rivalry Esq before seeing this. I totally agree with the Bielema thing. He has killed Wisconsin, and also hurt the Big Ten a lot!

I think the Iowa recruiting situation is always skewed - they rarely pull 4/5 star recruits, but seem to come out with NFL running backs and offensive linemen constantly. It seems that conservative "coaching through details" approach of KF turns 3 star Iowa boys into big time players...

I agree with that Graham, but at the same time you figured they would do better than last in the Big Ten, coming off a better season. It was was very disappointing to see their results!

Question #2 - I am pumped to watch Carlos Hyde. No one talks about him with Berry coming in, but he is so versatile. He blocks, catches the ball out of the backfield, and runs with a ton of power. I really feel those three things will get him some early playing time at Ohio State! Tressel loves versatile players.

I am with you on the Duron Carter thing. Every time I watch him, I get goosebumps. He is special for sure!
