The 2nd Annual "Looks Test" // 2009 Edition 08/09/2009
4 Comments

For those of you who follow our blog closely, you remember our "Looks Test" post from check in a year ago. The idea finds its roots from John Cooper's quote of a player physically passing the "looks test." So let's take a look at seven players who caught our eye in the pictures from check in:
Picture
Jermil Martin: It's always a nice sign when one of the running backs looks physically impressive. No one knows how big Martin's role will be since he is making the shift from fullback to running back, but he looks like he has the body to be the "big back" option the staff wants him to be. Not that Herron looked weak by any means, but I have to give the nod to Martin. He passes the "looks test!"

Picture
Brian Rolle: This is Rolle's second time passing the "looks test" with us here at The Silver Bullet. He might not be the tallest guy around, but I don't think there are too many guys that want to mess with him. Just as his shirt suggests, he will take you "any time, anywhere!" The defense needs Rolle to step up, especially considering the linebacking core took a hit with the injury of Tyler Moeller. Rolle is a heat-seeking missile, and should have no problem becoming a star at Ohio State.

Picture
Taurian Washington: It's a lot harder for the thinner guys to pass the "looks test," but Washington definitely does. Let's hope the weight room work transfers over to the field because the Buckeyes need some upperclassman leadership from him. With Ray Small's status up the air, Washington could find himself some serious playing time. Maybe then he can finally become more than just a spring game all star.

Jermale Hines: Folks, the V-Neck is in and our boy Jermale Hines decided to rock it (one of many players). It's not the shirt that helps Hines grab a spot on the list, but the fact that he looks ready to devastate the Big Ten. Let's be honest, it is not hard to be a Hines fan because he is always around the ball and hits with little respect for his body. Just one more player to rep the No. 7 with some serious passion.

Picture
Jordan Whiting: Wow, Mr. Whiting does not look like your typical freshman. He passes the "looks test" for sure, and appears to have all the physical intangibles. His biggest test will be trying to climb the ranks of a talented and deep linebacking core. Watch out though, he could be one to keep an eye on down the road. As for now, we know he can handle being in the weight room!

Picture
Thaddeus Gibson: Gibson may have been the most intimidating looking player to check in on Sunday. The guy is flat put together, and is following the growing trend of muscle bound defensive ends at Ohio State. He had a solid year in 2008, but the Buckeyes are looking for him to definitely take in up a notch. There is no reason why he should not headline what may be the Big Ten's best defensive line.

Picture
Terrelle Pryor: There is no way this list could be complete without the prodigy, Terrelle Pryor. It would be easy to try to draw some sort of comparison, but who else has size, bulk, and speed? Oh, did we mention he plays quarterback! Anyways, it should be a fun year to watch Pryor play. Not only is he the face of the Ohio State football program, but he should be the premiere star in the conference. The guy has it all, including passing the "looks test!"

Washington and Hines look huge. Hines looks like he's heading down to the line to replace Gholston as the biggest guy on defense.

I think Spitler should have made the list. Besides that, I really liked this post!
