Ohio State received their 22nd verbal for the class of 2011 this evening and honestly, I didn't see this one coming.  Long snapper Bryce Haynes (Cumming, Ga./Pinecrest) pledged his servcies to the Scarlet and Gray over North Carolina, Notre Dame and Harvard.  Most of the rumors pointed to Notre Dame as his favorite followed by the Tar Heels, so is comes as a bit of surprise that Haynes chose the Buckeyes, saying, "That is just the college I liked the most. I felt most comfortable there. That is really where I wanted to go."

I could be wrong but I don't ever remember Ohio State signing a long snapper out of high school before.  It has been common in recent years to give a scholarship to an upper classman who has proved themselves as a solid long snapper, but I believe this is a first.  Haynes, who is 6'4", 185 pounds, is reportedly a fine athlete who runs a 4.7 40, and played both defensive end and wide receiver in high school.  But OSU has offered him as a long snapper, and hopefully he will be a good one.  Special teams weren't so special in 2010, and it all starts with a good snap, so maybe this isn't such a strange offer after all.

Welcome aboard Bryce...now it is time to hit the weights. (Video after the jump)
