In a move that nobody saw coming, Ohio State offered and accepted a verbal commitment today from punter Johnny Townsend. Townsend hails from Boone High School in Orlando, Florida, and is considered one of the best punters in the nation. In fact he was recently named the top punter at the University of Alabama camp this summer, and was named as the fourth best punter in the nation by Kohl's Kicking Camp.
As as is often the case with highly recruited kickers and punters, Townsend, who measures in 6'2", 200, is an athlete who has been timed in the forty in 4.5 seconds, can benchpress 260 lbs, and has a vertical leap of 33". No word on whether he can also play receiver!
Townsend becomes the twelth member of Ohio State's recruiting class of 2013, and while he may not be the one that everyone was hoping for at this point, it does end a long dry spell for Urban and his staff.
