The staff has been after a bevy of speedy, versatile athletes in the 2013 class, and they have finally landed one. Taivon Jacobs (District Heights, Md./Suitland) committed to Ohio State this morning, picking the Buckeyes over West Virginia and Maryland.
Jacobs is listed at 5-10 165 pounds, and plays at wide receiver, defensive back and kick returner for his high school team. He is also a speedster who is know for his 4.4 speed. That speed was what helped him rack up 17 scholarships offers, including offers from the likes of Miami (FL), Florida State, Notre Dame, UNC, Nebraska and others.
He will mostly likely land at receiver in Urban Meyer's offense, spending a lot of time in the slot. No doubt, the staff will find other creative ways to use his speed. Meyer already has Jalin Marshall and Ezekiel Elliott on board, both also know for their speed and ability to stretch defenses, and he's added another great weapon in Jacobs. It will now be interesting to see where the attention shifts for the staff. With 15 commitments and a limited class size, the staff will be picky in who they take from here on out. While the staff will likely take one more receiver in this class (out of Robert Foster, Devon Allen, Shelton Gibson, Levonte Whitfield, and others), one has to wonder if Jacobs' commitment could mark the end of Shelton Gibson's recruitment. We shall see...
Anyway, this is big pickup for the Buckeyes. Check out his film after the break.
